Rennes pt2

I was sick as a dog today buy scraped meself out of bed to check out the town as i have a day off. Im a sucker for cool old misshapen buildings and Rennes is full of them. ate breton crepes…how the fuck are french people not fat? Wine foie gras, duck, butter sandwiches with butter as the bread?

la bon vie

I am in the studio of Guillamme Dubois who works with Titi Robin. We are recording the new songs so i can give them to other musicians etc as they are like seeds cast to the four corners of the earth. From these i will choose the final songs to go with the ones i have already chosen.  It’s just me and guitar acoustic, two mikes. If the songs work in this “meat and potatoes” fashion then they will work when the “sauce” is added. There is a train strike tomorrow so i leave for Paris by train this evening.

I am trying to soak up as much of this sunlight before i head north again.

Tomorrow i play in Rennes.

montpellier

I am so tired it hurts to type. I had a great night tonight, i relaxed and the songs just came out of me. My voice held up and let me do what my mind wanted. The crowd as you can see below were amazing. Thank you all for being such a good bunch of people to play for it was nice meeting you.

I am now 20kms outside Montpellier in a studio for two days. I will keep you posted…must sleep…dec

Toulouse

We hit the road this morning and I got to see some cool places along the way and i have to admit that French food is fucking amazing. I was speechless after a meal in a village somewhere by a river on the way to Toulouse. Sinful.  I’m just off stage now at La Bikini a fantastic venue in Toulouse, the best sound i have had in a while and that makes all the difference when you are singing. Thanks to all the great crew there for helping me.

I sang well and i got inside a few songs and reached a good spot where i am not thinking about playing or singing and it is just happening.

I like that. I am looking forward to being able to take a bigger band and maybe even a guitarist for some songs so i can just sing.

Anyway i am off to get some water and see Aaron play.

Beaucoup de fromage…

I am sitting backstage at La Cooperative De Mai in Clermont Ferrand listening to Aaron play another brilliant show and typing this. Yes i am a tech geek. I took a video of the crowd after i finished and promised it would be on you tube so here it is fresh off the press of my mac and on your screen.

We got to Clermont Ferrand from La Mans after following Following the Aaron van which did 160 all the way. La Mans style. I had a lot of problems onstage last night so apologies to those who saw me play. Tonight was much better and I got inside the songs a bit more. I’m still trying out new ones and changing them as i play each night. French crowds are amazing. It is scary, over a thousand people and you can hear a pin drop.

Erika who is playing cello with me and Maeva who plays cello with Aaron are teaching me how to swear with flair in French, i am reciprocating the favour.

Thanks a million to all the people who came up to say hello and listened so attentively. It really makes long drives, lack of sleep and the occasional bouts of “What the fuck am i doing” seem more than worth it.
