Lyon

I was not 100% happy with how i played last night in Lausanne where the crowd was great but I kept getting distracted at crucial moments by loud people. So today i was really looking forward to making amends for my sins and playing with everything in me.

This was one of the nicest crowds since Brest, thank you all from the bottom of my heart for a great night. Sorry to those who wanted cds i sold out a few nights ago and the replacements have not yet arrived. But it will be released in France in March with some extra tracks. Thanks aaron for giving me the chance to play and being so cool to me.

I’m smiling.

Rod l’hiboo (the owl) is an awesome photographer, he took photos of me playing both times in Paris.

I’m off for a long drive to Laussane in Switzerland for a show in next few minutes.

Nov 26 – BELGIUM – BRUXELLES – CIRQUE ROYAL

THis was good fun, i only had a short set but got through it well. Got blackbird singing well, i have been slowly making the choruses higher, but i relaxed and enjoy it more now. Erika played cello well. What a great venue…I am typing this at 2 am in a ridiculously chique boutique hotel that fucked up reservations so i am in the penthouse suite and the place is about 7 times bigger than my piece of shit flat in dublin. I am lughing heartily and im going to soak in a bath. Very DIY punk…

Someone got onstage during Aarons show tonight and i went to get him off…old habits die hard…

anyway thanks to all for listening to me play…here is the video of the crowd tonight as promised

lost in paris

Posted in Songwriting, Touring, music on November 23, 2007 by declandebarra

I spent 4-5 hrs getting deliberately lost in Paris last night. I wrote a song as i walked, people must have thought i was nuts singing to myself and scribbling in my notebook. I transcribed it all on to my laptop today and will edit it later. I am in the office of my booking agent and have stolen the keys so i can come back in here late tonight to sing very loudly and work it out. I think i will do it with just voice.

I cannot eat anymore cheese. I have reached the outer limits cheese of tolerance.

I jammed with a guitarist Nico le King today and might do some shows with him playing guitar with me when i come back here.   http://www.myspace.com/nicolegroupe   I spoke to my agent here and asked that when i come back i can do a series of shows with no pa, completely acoustic apart from an amplifier for the guitar. I love shows like this.  They are real and there is no barrier or falseness with the microphone.  it is primal.

right…i’m going to go eat some broccoli

THe sun is shining, I am in Paris and I read this…ahhh the thought of that prick Howard getting caught with his pants down makes me happy.

Nothing new here, cultivate a climate of fear and xenophobia to maintain power. I hope he dies roaring…and if you are in ASIO and reading this…get a life.

Angers…nice one Rory

Rory Gallagher played here so i am on hallowed ground. I had a great time tonight and the crowd were very warm. I met Titi Robin before i played and he was in the audience watching. Not nerve wracking at all! Jaysus! I was really happy with me voice tonight, and i wished i could keep singing all night. That is the only hard thing on these supports you have 30 minutes and then your done.

I can here Aaron kicking it below. I was singing the riff for Slayer’s reign in blood just before they went on so Olivier will have it in his brain all night while he plays. Speed metal Aaron.

here is the crowd as promised…thank you!

L’Olympia Paris

It was great to play here, lots of history obviously and the crowd were great again. I had a strange show, one song would be great and then the next ok. My voice was good. I fucked up apple tree and improvised an ending. The night was recorded by Patrice (Aaron’s engineer) and i might use a version of wind that shakes the barley which I love to sing but never works in the studio only live. Some songs are like that. I will listen to it today and decide.

I decided afterwards as i walked off stage that i want to work with a guitarist / pianist so i can enjoy myself more singing and lose myself in it. And so the search begins…

Thanks to all the Aaron crew for helping during the show with lights and monitors and sound. You are all great.

And thanks you to the crowd for the welcome…as promised here is the video from the stage.

space madness…

there comes a time in every tour when everyone goes stupid and passes a toy shop and collectively know they must stop and buy stupid pointless shit that will make them laugh for hours. I missed out as became a tourist and went along the coast to Brest. The Aaron crew made spectacular purchases namely a set of boxing gloves inthe shape of the “things” hand from the fantastic 4 and a dj set/electronic toy drum kit.

As you can see below the shape of Aaron’s next album will be eclectic. Here we see sound engineer Patrice on drums and Olivier working on a delicate number. Wait for the end …it’s worth it.

We wanted to throw tvs out the window at the hotel but there were no tvs…or windows.

I’m in the heart of Breton Country and Aaron’s cellist Maeva told me it would be a good show because it was her home town and the people would be warm and welcoming. She was right. I relaxed and had a great time singing, Erika Peron who has been playing cello with me did a great job. I am seriously under slept but tonight feels like i am getting over the weird virus that knocked me out in Rennes. I have been writing more songs backstage and have finalised the list for recording when i return to Dublin. Tomorrow we are heading back to Paris for a few days before playing the Olympia. I’m really looking forward to playing there, something i have always wanted to do. As promised here is the crowd in Brest tonight. Thank you all for the great welcome.
